Optical Drive or DVD drive is a hardware that can hold CDs on DVDs, etc., each of which can write much more information to the storage device than a floppy disk and read them on the disk. Optical Drive is usually known by similar names such as Optical Disk Drive, CD Drive, DVD Drive or abbreviated as ODD and also BD Drive. Some of the famous companies that manufacture Optical Drives are Memorex, NEC, ASUS and LG.

These drives have been able to play movies, install software and games, transfer data, and do a variety of other things. However, with the advancement of technology and the shift to digital media, we can now see the use of optical drives decreasing in many devices. However, in some devices such as laptops, game consoles, and some computer systems, optical drives are still a core component. These drives allow users to watch movies, install software and games, transfer data, and even store backup copies of their data on optical discs.

A DVD drive, or Optical Drive, is a device used to read and write information from optical discs. These devices use optical technology to read and write information to discs.

Optical drives were first introduced with the introduction of CD and CD-ROM discs, or as CD drives. These discs provided their information to the device using an optical reading method using a red laser. Then, with the advancement of technology, DVD (Digital Versatile Disc) discs and later Blu-ray discs were also introduced.

Finally, the ability to store information with higher quality and greater capacity was added to Blu-ray discs (BD).
